V3: Like our previous WoodRiver® Bench Planes, our version 3 is based on the reliable Bedrock design and feature heavy, stress-relieved ductile iron castings, fully machined adjustable frogs and A-2 blades but we took the opportunity between manufacturing runs to do a critical review and make a few improvements. We’ve changed the shape of the rear tote and increased the diameter of the blade adjustment wheel to make advancing the blade a bit easier. We improved the lateral adjustment lever and added a traditional style bearing for better control of the blade. We’ve made numerous changes to the castings that result in better “feedback” and a solid feel to the user. Working closely with our own manufacturer, we’ve continued to make improvements in machining, finish and functionality which we feel have yielded hand planes that are meant to be used and offer an extraordinary value.

WoodRiver #6 Plane The No. 6, also called a "fore" hand plane is good for jointing edges and flattening and smoothing large surfaces, such as table tops, panels and workbench tops, where you might not want or need the length or weight of a larger plane. Chisel Planes (Canadian orders only, please)

Think of a chisel plane as a chisel perched atop a wedge to control the angle, edge in front and a depth adjustment to control the cut. This simple idea has many practical applications from removing excess glue
to trimming proud dowels and pocket hole plugs.

WoodRiver Small Chisel Plane This small chisel plane is not going to see daily use in your shop but when you need it you will be glad you have it. I am impressed with the quality of the casting and the clean machining. The blade is nice and thick and well prepared, should only take a minute to sharpen. This tool allows you to work into a vertical surface accurately. Remove glue, flush a plug or anywhere you have tried to use a plane blade lying flat. Weighs 1 ½ lbs and is 5” long by 1 ¾ wide. Block Planes (Canadian orders only, please)

The WoodRiver Block Hand Plane is based on the venerable Stanley #65 low angle and #18 standard angle “Knuckle Cap” design, generally considered one of best block plane designs around. With the widely recognized comfortable chrome plated Knuckle Cap, these block planes look like the standard and low angle versions of yester year. Upon closer inspection you’ll notice changes to the base castings which not only strengthen historically weak points of the original design, but also improve the blade bedding area. Improved blade adjustment mechanisms allow for crisp, easy adjustment of the blades using the rear adjustment knob. The adjustable mouth is very smooth to operate and allows fine tuning of the mouth for work ranging from wide open for heavy cutting to tight throat for control of tearout of difficult grain. The stress relieved ductile iron castings are precision machined, flat and square. Each plane is outfitted with a high carbon tool steel tool blade, which is hardened to Rc60-64 for maximum edge retention and ground to a 25° bevel. Blades should be honed prior to use..
